Founded in California in 1962, Taco Bell is an American quick service restaurant that serves casual Mexican-inspired food. Roughly 40 million customers per week Live Más by eating at its nearly 6,500 locations across the nation. Taco Bell is a subsidiary of Yum! Brands and also has 300 restaurants in 24 other countries.
Taco Bell’s New Year’s Resolutions for 2017 include reducing energy use in a statement from the company: In 2017, through its new restaurant concepts, Taco Bell will better reflect the local communities by reducing energy consumption and featuring more reclaimed materials and sustainable landscape features. The company will also update its packaging to celebrate its craveable food, while remaining environmentally conscious.
The Accuserv Solution:
Accuserv partnered with Restaurant Supply Chain Solutions, A YUM! Brands Co-op (RSCS) and Taco Bell to aid in finding the perfect solution for their site lighting retrofit needs. Taco Bell then partnered with two survey/installation companies, who surveyed each of the 236 sites, notified outliers and reported back to us the site conditions for each location. Accuserv then worked with the lighting manufacturer to review the surveys and generate a bill of material for each location. Running parallel to this, Accuserv worked to reduce overall lead-times for products and built a supply chain to ensure the lowest possible landed cost for each location. After the plans were approved for each location, Accuserv coordinated the purchase of the material with RSCS and Taco Bell, used our Supply Chain Management System to deliver products in a timely manner and coordinated with installers to ensure they had what they needed when they needed while taking care of any/all issues. Lastly, now that 236 restaurants have been upgraded to LED, Accuserv maintains all data identifying what was installed and when it was installed, giving Taco Bell a single point of contact for the life of the facility to take care of all warranty claims, maintenance issues and future retrofit opportunities. The project planning took many months, but the execution only lasted 4 as the first order was placed June 15, 2017 and the last installations are set to be completed by October 31st.
As this project nears completion, Taco Bell is reviewing adding more sites to the list while Taco Bell Franchisees are seeing the results and starting to adopt the new technology. With the Accuserv service model, supply chain management technology, reduced overall cost and dedication to exceeding expectations, there should be no Taco Bell without LED in the coming few years.
